**Per California law, no one under the age of 18 may be tattooed, under any circumstances, ever.**
Here’s the deal…
For any piercing services, If you are under the age of 18, you MUST have a documented CUSTODIAL PARENT or LEGAL GUARDIAN present.*
-Under California State Law, the parent/guardian must present a valid state or federal ID, as well as the original Birth Certificate for the minor in question (regardless of physical resemblance, matching residential addresses, etc) each time the minor in question wishes to be pierced* (Acceptable parental I.D. examples are: State Driver’s License, State I.D. Card, Military I.D., or Passport.)
**Children must be at least 5 years old to receive ear piercings.**
**You absolutely MUST be 18 or older to receive dermal anchors/surface piercings, tongue, nipple or genital piercings! No exceptions.**
To ensure the quality and fit of the jewelry, as well as our ability to properly sterilize it, we will not pierce with or install jewelry bought from outside of our studio. Because our clients’ health and safety is our top priority, if we’re unable to confirm material and manufacturing aspects we just feel like the risks are too high. If we’re able to verify that your jewelry was purchased from us or another APP studio, then we can insert it into healed piercings, but if a piercing needs to be redone or you’re wanting to use it for a new piercing, then new components or entire pieces may need to be purchased. Any jewelry you're hoping to use needs to be dropped off at least 24 hours prior to your appointment for processing.
Downsizing is the process of returning to your piercer to have the fit of your jewelry adjusted; because your tissue will swell a bit after being pierced, your jewelry needs to start out a little longer/larger in diameter to account for that swelling (trust us, you don't want to start with tight fitting jewelry, oof). Downsizing is mainly needed for piercings done with studs or barbells, and around 4-8 weeks - depending on the piercing and how your specific healing is going - it's a good idea to return to your piercer to have shorter posts put in. This can help reduce the issues that can arise from jewelry moving in the piercing, getting snagged or tangled in hair, and being slept on. It is not required, but tends to be better for the long-term health and happiness of your piercing.
Every studio is different, but there is often a small fee associated with the downsizing process to cover the cost of the new component(s) needed. At our studio, for example, the cost of a shorter post for your 4 week old nostril piercing will be discounted, and we don't charge a jewelry change fee for downsizing.
We feel that the better question would be "What is covered in my investment?" Because we insist on using only the highest quality implant-grade materials and solid nickel-free gold from the best manufacturers in the world we're able to ensure the lowest possible likelihood you'll have issues with allergic reaction, or jewelry breaking, rusting, or being defective in any way. After all, you're getting pierced because it looks good, right? We think you're worth better than costume jewelry, and we hope you do too!
This doesn’t happen often, but if it does contact us immediately! Most issues such as stones discoloring, cracking or falling out of settings, pins on threadless ends breaking off, threads on threaded posts and ends stripping, or materials tarnishing/degrading are covered by lifetime guarantees offered by our manufacturers and can often be repaired or replaced. There are times when features of the jewelry may need to be adjusted; certain gemstones, Turquoise for example, will have natural variations and may not be able to be replicated exactly. This will come down to the manufacturer's discretion.
While many repairs are offered free of cost, if the manufacturer determines that the issue was from daily wear and tear as opposed to manufacturing defects you may be responsible for paying for your piece(s) to be fixed. This is something we’ll help determine before any payment is taken. Wait times for repairs will also vary between manufacturers, and is completely out of our control. Trust us, we are also not excited to have to wait for jewelry to be repaired, but we understand that sometimes that's just what it takes.
In the case of lost components, unfortunately we can’t repair what we don’t have - so do your best to track down whatever piece has been damaged!
We want to make visiting our studio as easy and comfortable as possible, so for our visitors with children, sensory sensitivities, compromised immune systems or other needs that would just work better when we don't have a lobby full of other customers, please feel free to reach out to us either by phone or email and we would be happy to book you an earlier-hour time before our normal business hours.
